Leonardo Project KNOWHOW

Studio Archive

Since it's foundation 35 years ago, the International Ceramics Studio has organised many successful international symposia as part of our regular programme. These symposia and meetings at the International Ceramics Studio were at times thematic and at first initiating a dialogue with the 'Get to know each other' programmes which were made necessary by the historical and political isolation of the Iron Curtain.

Looking back we can see how the ICS has faced artistic and political challenges and developed to become what is today an institute of international renown. With it's judicious invitations the ICS has endeavoured to achieve no borderline between the 'fine arts' and the 'applied arts'. That there is only either 'Art' or 'Nothing'. The artists invited to the 'Heroes of the Age' symposium in 2000 variously work with clay, glass, write books, paint or sculpt. There work and their philosophy is borderless, free. They seem to give back faith in a world that has been lost. Transylvania and Canada, Japan and Hungary, the USA and Russia all speak a common artistic language. The works created during that symposium suggest a talent and idealism strong enough to bear the new millennium.
