BABOS PALMA
Hungary

Babos Palma took her diploma in porcelain design at the Hungarian Academy of Craft and Design in 1985. Her master was Imre Schrammel.

"My first encounter with porcelain, as matter and means of expression took place when I was at college. Its lyric poetry touched me."

She has been concerned with the post modern reformulation of porcelain forms while preserving the traditional functions of the artefacts. In recent years alongside her porcelain design for factory production she makes individual sculptural forms which inverstigate the social fabric of life and at the same time extend the uses and qualities of the material.

"In my works of porcelain, functionality and plasticity have become separate. I have always been interested in the transformation of consumer goods and the metamorphosis of things dictated by changing fashions of different ages. I could compare the process of creating porcelain objects to the writing of a sonnet, controlled by strict rules and discipline".
