CLAY, WOOD, FIRE & SALT II

SMALL SALT KILN
Built in 1984 by East German kiln maker Hartmut Schattal. It was the first salt glaze kiln to be built in Hungary. Fired hundreds of times over a 20 year period. Still firing beautifully. Takes an average 10 - 12 hour firing to cone 10 down.

Many international award winning works have been fired in this kiln. On average 5 kilos of salt are used in salting and rich effects are achieved with the large amount of residue salt in the kiln.
