Our organised program of symposium,
open days, lectures and demonstrations.
Each year we organise a major international ceramic symposium with acknowledged ceramic masters. The invited guest artists will be working on their own projects or in collaboration with the other residents. The invited masters present their working methods and discuss their ideas and philosophy during demonstrations, formal and informal seminars and public lectures.
October, 2023
In recent decades artists have re-embraced tradition as a basis for both critical commentary and creative intervention. The inheritance and re-interpretation of ceramic traditions is an underlying theme to many contemporary artists, some using traditional techniques of firing, materials and glazes or classic form to create modern sculptural works.
These invited artists are taking the lessons from old traditions and shaping their work for the future. Established and emerging ceramic artists meet and work and find out what influences their work and where ceramic traditions are taken in new and surprising directions.
The International Ceramic Symposium is organised by the International Ceramic Studio in collaboration with the Foundation for Contemporary Ceramics (KKA) Hungary and funded by the Hungarian National Cultural Fund (NKA).
